Getting Started on Presto3D

Where do I begin?

You can begin by creating your account. This is the first step whether you wish to buy, sell, create a gallery, or participate in the forums.

How do I see the models in 3D?

The first time you visit Presto3D, you will need to download a small 3D plug-in to be able to view the models in 3D. The first time that you visit a model page with a 3D preview, you will see a large download button. Download the plugin and follow the instructions given in the installer. The whole process takes about 30 seconds, and then you will be able to see 3D models in 3D!

What file types will be able to display in 3D?

Currently, the following filetypes are supported: .max, .3ds, .ma, .mb, .dae. We are working on adding more types in the future. You can upload any type of 3D file to the marketplace, but only the filetypes noted above will be able to display a 3D preview.

Troubleshooting for 3D Previews

Why can’t I see 3D models on my Mac?

Currently, the 3D previews are only available for Windows. We are working hard to bring 3D previews to Macs as well, so stay tuned.

What browsers are supported?

The 3D previews can be viewed in Firefox (version 2 or 3) and Internet Explorer (version 6 or 7). We recommend Firefox 3 for the best experience on Presto3D. The site is supported in just about every browser, but 3D previews can only be viewed in the browsers listed above.

The plugin installation stops halfway through with a “Download Failed” message. What do I do?

The most likely cause for this is because you are behind a proxy server. Go to www.presto3d.com/3dviewer/FViewerWebInstaller.exe to download the full plugin directly, and then run the installation process.

When I try to install the 3D plug-in in Firefox 2, I get a screen asking me which user account I would like to use. What do I do?

This may be due to the fact that you are not an administrator on your computer. This occurs most often on computers in large offices. The best solution to this problem is to upgrade to Firefox 3. You can download the latest version of Firefox here. On Windows XP, be sure to UNcheck the box that says “Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity” if it pops up, as this will prevent the plug-in from being installed properly.

The 3D plug-in will not install for Internet Explorer 6 or 7, but I get no error message. What can I do?

If you try to install the plug-in and nothing happens, this may be due to the fact that you are not an administrator on your computer. This occurs most often on computers in large offices. The best solution to this problem is to use Firefox 3 (Firefox 2 has this same problem). If you do not have Firefox 3 installed, you can download it here. On Windows XP, be sure to UNcheck the box that says “Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity” if it pops up, as this will prevent the plug-in from being installed properly.

Buying

What kind of payment do you accept?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.

Can I return a model?

Yes, within 48 hours of when you purchased the model. For the moment, we do not have an automated system for this, so you will have to contact the returns department at returns@presto3d.com. Please provide your account name and the name of the model and artist. Please allow 7 days for the refund to be processed.

IMPORTANT NOTE: When you return a model, you forfeit your license to this copyrighted work and must delete the model and all the files downloaded with it. We place a great value on the work of the artists on Presto3D.com, and we ask you to please respect their rights.

I need a model in a different file format than what it is currently in. What do I do?

Send us a request to support@presto3d.com with the model name and artist name of the model you wish to convert, as well as the format you wish to convert it to, and we will convert it for you. We can’t support conversion to all 3D formats, but we will do the best that we can.

Selling

I want to sell my models. How much will I make?

Normally, as the seller, you earn 50% of the sale price of any model you sell. As a special promotion, for any model submitted during beta, you will earn 60% of the sale price, forever. Each model can be sold an unlimited number of times, and you profit each time it is sold.

I am a seller, do I have to fill out any tax forms (W-8, Tax ID, etc.)?

No, there are no tax forms to fill out for Presto3D. You can start selling right away without any of that headache.

I sold some models. When and how will I get paid?

All payments are sent out on the 15th of each month for the previous calendar month. All payments are made by cheque, and sellers should allow 2-4 weeks for the cheque to arrive. Payments will only be sent out once you have accumulated over $100 in sales (but don’t worry, if you don’t reach $100 this month, your balance carries over to next month).

Can I change the price of one of my models that is already for sale in My Uploads?

Yes, you can change the price at any time. To do this, go to page of the model you wish to edit. Under “Tools” in the bottom right hand corner of the page, click “Edit this model”. Change the price, then click “Save Changes” at the bottom of the page. You will earn the same 50% commission at any price you set.

I am selling a realistic model of a person. Can I display it nude?

The artistic, tasteful, portrayal of the nude human form is acceptable on Presto3D. Pornographic or sexually explicit portrayals are not acceptable. If you have found a model that you believe violates this rule, please report it (there is a link to “Report Model” on each model page). Below you will find the excerpt from our Terms of Service on this subject:

Users of Presto3D.com are permitted to submit content that displays nudity so long as the content does so in a way that is tasteful and not pornographic or sexually explicit, and abides by the representations and warranties above. While the seller assumes all responsibility for the content that he or she submits, Feeling Software retains the right (but not the obligation) to remove content that it believes is not tasteful, is pornographic, or is sexually explicit.

Security

If someone can see my model in 3D, can they steal it?

The model that can be seen on the site in 3D is not the original model that you uploaded. The model is encrypted and displayed in a proprietary format based on, but not the same as, COLLADA. Though it may look very close to the same as your original model at first glance, the model quality has been reduced to make the web viewing more smooth, which is why we include a disclaimer to that effect under each model.

Someone else is trying to sell my model or texture (or a derivative of my model or texture). What do I do?

If you find a model or texture on Presto3D that is uploaded by someone who is not the rightful copyright owner, please notify us immediately, and the item will be removed from the marketplace. This is a violation not only of the artist’s intellectual property rights, but also of Presto3D’s Terms of Service, and we take both very seriously.

To notify us, go to the model page, click “Report model”, select “Copyrighted” and fill out the comment box. An e-mail will automatically be sent to support regarding the reported model. There is no need to send an additional message to support.

Miscellaneous

What is the .dae file type?

The extension “.dae” is associated with the 3D format called COLLADA. All 3D models are available for download in this format or in the format they were originally submitted in.

COLLADA is a 3D file format especially designed to facilitate 3D information interchange between the different 3D content creation tools and to be easily integrated within game development tool chains. It is an open format which Feeling Software has contributed significantly to over the past three years. The official web site of COLLADA is www.collada.org.
